Dawn Landfill

The Dawn Landfill Site is located approximately 2.5 km. west of County Road 21 (Oil Heritage Road) at 4084 Langbank Line in the Township of Dawn-Euphemia.  The 36 acre site, encompassing a landfill area of 14 acres, was opened in 1972.  Currently, the Dawn Landfill Site continues to receive and dispose of waste according to the terms and conditions outlined in Certificate of Approval (CofA) No.A032502 issued by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), dated December 19th, 1996.

The site is open between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, and between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm every Saturday.  Residents should note that access to the site will be restricted 30 minutes prior to site closure each day.  Disposal of waste is restricted to residents of the County of Lambton.  Residents may utilize the Dawn Landfill to dispose of household and commercial waste however; the following items will not be accepted.

  • Liquid or Hazardous Waste
  • Liquid Industrial Waste
  • Field Stones or Concrete
  • Tree Stumps or Limbs
  • Dead Animals or Animal Waste
  • Ashes

Recyclables (cans, glass, plastic, newsprint, etc.), waste metal and tires must be segregated and placed in the marked receptacles.  White goods (refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.) must be tagged indicating that CFC’s have been removed prior to acceptance.  The site attendant has the right to limit access and items to be disposed of in the landfill.

For additional information please contact the County of Lambton, Public Works Department at 519 845-0801 or 1-866-324-6912.

Tipping Fees

Tipping fees are determined by the site operator in attendance based upon the weight or size of the load delivered for disposal and the current County fee structure.  As of April 1 2004, tipping fees at both the Moore and Dawn Landfill Sites were increased to $45.00/metric tonne or $16.00/cubic yard of waste.  The following is a list of typical charges associated with a variety of delivery vehicles.

  • Car                                                 $10.00
  • Car with trailer or Pickup                     $20.00
  • Pickup with trailer or racks                  $40.00

Additional charges may be applied to cover the extra disposal costs associated with certain items, including but not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Passenger car tires (without rim)         $2.50/tire

Questions regarding the County’s current fee structure can be directed to the Public Works Department at 519 845-0801 or 1-866-324-6912.
