The Building Services Department issues building permits for the local municipalities within the County of Lambton, except for the City of Sarnia and the Municipality of Lambton Shores.
Building permits are required for
- new structures (dwellings, garages, carports, etc.)
- renovations to existing structures
- additions to existing structures
- the demolition of any structure
- swimming pools
Fencing for pools varies by municipality, please check with your local municipality for the fencing requirements.
Free standing structures that are smaller than 100 square feet do not require a building permit but must comply with the zoning by-laws of the local municipality with respect to such things as setbacks from property line, height, etc.
