Sarnia, ON – This summer children can delve into medieval times, take an animal adventure or have fun with some funky fundamentals of art, all at Gallery Lambton. Emphasizing creative exploration, Gallery Lambton’s art classes are for children who want to have fun making art. Age-appropriate programs, taught by experienced instructors, are designed to develop technical skills and manual dexterity, build confidence and encourage each child's creative imagination. Limited to 15 participants, small class sizes encourage individual attention. The cost for most weeks is $45.00 and includes all materials.
Medieval Times & More - July 7 to July 11 - Take an art adventure to medieval times where dragons, castles, knights and ladies abound! Have fun making a ‘stained glass’ artwork, and constructing dragons, unicorns and more medieval creatures from clay. Session #1 - ages six to eight - 10am - 12pm Session #2 - ages nine to 13 from 1pm - 3 pm
Animal Adventures - July 14 to July 18 - Create everything from pet rocks to pink elephants while having fun drawing, painting and sculpting animals both real and imagined! Learn how to draw realistically using a favourite image of an animal. Ages six to eight – 10 am – 12 pm
Fun & Funky Fundamentals - July 14 to July 18 - Explore the elements of art in a fun way and learn about shape, form and texture while constructing a clay piece. Study line by using pastels, paint to create a ‘scratch drawing’ and learn about space and perspective to create a cityscape collage. Ages nine – 13 – 1 pm – 3 pm
Arty Artifacts - July 21 to July 25 - Discover ancient civilizations and then create artifacts and artwork which relate to the past. Have fun making fossils, pottery, and beads using clay hand building techniques. Also work on a ‘tapestry’. Session #1 – ages six - eight, 10 am to 12 pm Session #2 - ages nine to 13 – 1 pm – 3 pm
Cave Dwellers - July 28 to August 1 - Recreate a prehistoric world! Learn about images found in cave paintings and then do a cave painting. Learn clay hand building techniques and then make dinosaurs of clay. Also have fun creating a lush and exotic prehistoric landscape with paint and other materials. Ages six to eight – 10 am – 12 pm
Art Like an Egyptian - July 28 to August 1 - Create a self-portrait in the style of Egyptian paintings. Use clay hand building techniques to create decorated clay boxes. Have fun deciphering and then writing with hieroglyphics to construct mysterious plaques. Ages nine to 13 – 1 pm – 3 pm
Landscapes & Art that goes Pop - August 5 to August 8 - Have fun painting landscapes including everything from cityscapes to the Bluewater Bridges. Learn about pop artist Andy Warhol and create large repeated images of flowers in this style. Explore painting with acrylics, printmaking and designing with stencils. Session #1 - ages six to eight - 10 am to 12 pm. Session #2 - ages nine to 13 - 1 pm to 3 pm
Wild Things – August 11 to August 15 - Have fun painting, drawing and sculpting animals great and small, including horses, turtles, and cats. Students will work with watercolours and will learn different techniques to create paintings of animals. Working with clay, students will choose their favourite animal and then create a sculpture of it. Session #1 - ages six to eight - 10 am to 12 pm Session #2 - ages nine to 13, 1 pm to 3 pm
Cowgirls & Cowboys - August 18 to August 22 - Meet at the corral where students will explore the Wild West through drawing and painting. Learn how to draw a cartoon ‘outlaw’ and then make a “Most Wanted Poster” in the old western style. Students will draw a desert scene complete with cactus and rattlesnakes. Then draw and paint every cowgirl and cowboy’s best friend – the horse. Ages six – eight – 10 am – 12 pm
The Wild West - Learn how to draw and paint subjects from the old west such as horses, ranch landscapes, still lifes, wagon wheels and Native American themes. Students will create a pen and ink drawing of an old cowboy’s ranch. Participants will create a Native American style painting using watercolours. Ages nine – 13 – 1 pm – 3 pm
Drawing Fun - August 25 to August 29 - Learn how to draw a wide range of subjects such as farm animals, desert animals, the pond, aliens and funny people. Students will learn how to draw farm animals in a proper farm setting. Have fun creating a whole world of wacky aliens from outer space. Ages six – eight – 10 am – 12 pm
Drawing & Cartoon Creations – August 25 to August 29 - Learn how to draw both realistic and cartoon-like subjects using a variety of materials. Students will create a beautiful still life using oil pastels. Then they will learn how to draw realistic flowers and then enhance them with watercolours and pencil crayons. Students will have fun exploring the insect world using mixed media. Ages nine - 13 – 1 pm - 3 pm
