Wyoming, ON – In just three short weeks, the Lambton Room will add a valuable piece of historical information to its collection:  the new history book, “The Township of Warwick: A Story Through Time”.

For the past eight years, work has been underway to create a book that tells the story of the development of Warwick Township since its survey in 1832.   On October 21st the Warwick Township History Committee will unveil its hard work:  a 630 page book with hundreds of photos and memories of residents and former residents.

“With an impressive slate of volunteer writers, contributing historians and experienced editors, the beauty of the book is that it focuses on ‘pictures’ and ‘stories’, rather than impersonal dates and chronology,” says Robert Tremain,  Supervisor-Curator, Lambton County Museums.   “After a few good evenings with the Warwick book, the reader is reminded that history happens all around us, every day --and despite what we may think at the time, the stories of a typical day eventually acquire intrigue and interest.“

Throughout its 25 chapters, the book takes a look at geology, pre-European settlements, development of agriculture, education, religion, government, business, architecture, military, sports, war years, good times, bad times, immigration, transportation, recollections and family profiles.   Over 200 of Warwick’s families are profiled.

“This book offers a generous smorgasbord of stories that cross the land and meet its people, through all the generations,” says Tremain.  “A Story Through Time covers other territory that most local histories ignore.  The remote geological past, native pre-history, and stories of immigrant arrivals in more recent decades are all very capably addressed.”

The book will be available for sale following the official launch ceremonies at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Warwick Township Hall, 7074 Egremont Road, Warwick Village. The Hall will remain open until 6 pm for pickup and sales. Cost of the book is $55.

“Proceeds from book sales will be used to create an online Warwick Township archive that will be shared through the County of Lambton’s archives known as the Lambton Room,” says Tremain.   “The paper files will be available to the public at the Lambton Room and the records will be digitized for online use, in order to make them available to future students, historians and genealogists.”

While other portions of Lambton’s history have been well documented, this is the first written history record of Warwick Township.   “The people of Warwick have invested a great deal of hard work to make this book a reality,” says Tremain.  “It is clear that they are keenly interested in history, passionate about their stories, and are well underway to leaving a rich legacy of documents and images on which future generations can further build a sense of place and community pride.”
