Sarnia, ON – Paramedics from the County of Lambton Emergency Medical Services Department will teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to Lambton’s residents during two free sessions on Saturday, May 23rd in Sarnia at the Strangway Community Centre.
The sessions are open to those aged eight and above and will provide verbal and hands-on demonstrations, along with opportunities to gain practical experience using mannequins.
“CPR is performed when people stop breathing and do not have a pulse,” said Jon Cann, Supervisor, County of Lambton Emergency Medical Services Department. “The purpose of CPR is to maintain a flow of oxygenated blood to the vital organs of the body, extending the window of time for further life saving treatments.”
Individuals may sign up for one of two sessions. The first session will be offered from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. The second session will be offered from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm. Pre-registration is required, and is now available by calling Paula Rose at 519 882-3797 ext 5021. The first 40 people who register will receive a free “CPR in a Box” kit which retails for $40.
Light refreshments will be provided and participants are asked to dress comfortably.
Participants who complete the session will be current in adult CPR and choking techniques; however, the course does not provide full CPR certification.
“Learning to perform CPR is a relatively easy task and we want to equip Lambton’s residents with the knowledge and skills they need to perform CPR and help save a life if the opportunity ever arises,” said Cann.
