Sarnia, ON – The County of Lambton Community Health Services Department has confirmed the death of an area resident who was admitted to hospital in October with influenza-like illness.

The 47-year-old Sarnia resident died Wednesday in a London hospital after a lengthy illness arising from Influenza A. No further details will be released about the individual to protect the privacy of the family.

Despite the prevalence of H1N1 influenza virus in Sarnia-Lambton, the exact virus subtype of Influenza A has not yet been determined. Lab-confirmed results are required to report the virus subtype. These results are pending at the time of this notification.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of this individual,” says Dr. Chris Greensmith, Medical Officer of Health for Lambton County.

More information about H1N1 influenza and the vaccine can be found online at www.lambtonhealth.on.ca. For updates call the Flu Clinic Info Line at 519 383-3812 or toll-free 1-800-667-1839 ext. 3812.
