Sarnia, ON – The County of Lambton Community Health Services Department received lab-confirmation verifying the Influenza A sub-type involved in the death of a 47-year-old Sarnia resident as H1N1.

A news release issued November 19, 2009 indicated Influenza A was detected but the virus subtype was not yet lab-confirmed.

This confirmed case is the first pandemic (H1N1) 2009 related death in Sarnia-Lambton. Since April 2009, Ontario has recorded 86 H1N1 flu virus-related deaths.
