Wyoming, ON – Four companies have responded to the County of Lambton's Request for Proposals for the Design and Build of a new public art gallery in Downtown Sarnia.

1375584 Ontario Limited o/a Bill Hoekstra General Contracting Ltd., Gentrac Building Corporation, Maaten Construction Limited, and PCR Contractors Inc. have submitted proposals for the project which were partially opened on Monday, January 11, 2010.

"This week, staff will be evaluating the four proponents by reviewing their qualifications and experience," said Jim Burns, Lambton County Warden.   "Providing the proponents achieve a designated score on this initial evaluation, staff will then open a second envelope, which will provide details of their concept for the building as well as the proposed cost."

A special meeting of Lambton County Council will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11am.  At this meeting, Councillors will consider a recommendation and report from staff concerning the preferred proponent and building concept.

"I am certain Councillors are looking forward to receiving the report and recommendation from staff so that they can learn more about these proponents and their concepts," said Warden Jim Burns.

In October 2009 the County of Lambton was awarded $3 million in federal funding to build a new home for Gallery Lambton.   Subsequently, Lambton County Council purchased the former Sak's Building and John Howard Society Building at the corner of Christina and Front Streets in Sarnia for the new location and dedicated $2.6 million to the project.    Senior staff and Councillors continue to speak with provincial government officials to determine if additional funding is available.    A community fundraising campaign is also under development.
