Sarnia, ON – A new decade calls for new beginnings and quitting smoking may be the first step to a new, healthier lifestyle.

Beginning on Monday, March 15, the County of Lambton Community Health Services Department is offering a FREE iQuit Smoking Program to help smokers quit smoking or reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke. The three-week program will run Monday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at Lambton Shared Services Centre, Bayside Centre.

"Smoking negatively impacts our health, relationships, and our budgets, but anyone who smokes knows nicotine addiction can be tough to beat," said Rose Atkins, Health Promotion Officer with Community Health Services. “Eighty per cent of smokers say they want to quit, and because iQuit Smoking is a group program, it provides encouragement and motivation that may make it easier to quit.”

Topics discussed in the program include stress management, setting goals, eating for health, active living tips, positive self-talk and Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Sharing personal experiences and learning from each other helps make this program a success.

For more information about iQuit Smoking, contact Community Health Services at 519 344-2062 ext. 2350, toll free 1-800-387-2882 or visit www.lambtonhealth.on.ca.
