Petrolia, ON – Lambton County’s Senior Services Department was presented with a recognition plaque today for their support and contributions to the Heroes in the Home Program, a community celebration that recognizes unpaid caregivers who make a big difference in many lives.
“There are a lot of caregivers in this community that spend many hours of their time caring for loved ones,” said Ken Herrington, Manager, Senior Services. “If it weren’t for these types of special people that give so much of their time and energy, the health care system would face an incredible demand.”
The Heroes in the Home Program is sponsored by the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) and the Caregiver Support Network of Sarnia-Lambton. Lambton County’s Senior Services Department was one of many community agencies/organizations that provided financial support to assist in the celebration.
“Providing care for a family member at home isn’t always an option, and it’s certainly not an easy option for many families,” said Warden Pat Davidson. “That’s why it is very important to recognize these caring individuals in our community who are going to great lengths to ensure their family members are well cared for at home – it takes a very special person to do so.” said Warden Davidson.
The public was able to nominate individuals for the Heroes in the Home Award Program through community service agencies in August and September. The Award Celebration was held in October and 39 individuals received recognition as caregivers.
