Sarnia, ON – Following the enormous success of artist David Moore’s community art education project of last year, Gallery Lambton is inviting a new audience to participate in a new vision. In 2003 Lambton County’s schools, hospital continuing care programs, libraries and retirement groups participated in a program to create three vibrantly painted images of kites which have since “flown” to venues throughout Lambton County. Destination flights continue to take off and are enjoyed by hundreds of viewers in the county.
This year, new immigrants to Lambton County will be joining together under the instruction of David Moore to create a single art image entitled Earth Spectrum. Through the YMCA Career and Learning Centre, these new English-speakers from Albania, China, Columbia, India, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey and Venezuela will be joining with a Canadian to create this large and striking painting. Two hands will be depicted holding planet earth (its oceans and masses) through which a prism (spectrum) is passed, transforming black, greys and whites of the left-hand image into the full colour of the right. Earth Spectrum will be pieced together like a quilt, each participant contributing images from their particular place of origin (signs, symbols, memories etc.). Upon completion, the co-operative art work will travel to various locations in Lambton County where it will introduce the stories and fresh talents of these newcomers to our country.
The initial planning sessions have taken place, and the painting of the sections will take place at the Gallery (Tuesday, November 9, from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.) and at the former George Perry School.
