Sarnia, ON – The next best thing to Santa’s workshops, are Gallery Lambton’s Christmas workshops, where students will have fun making art while exploring various media and learning new techniques. Gallery Lambton is offering everything from family fun with a Gingerbread House Workshop to a sleigh-full of Christmas workshops for children. Registration is taking place now at Gallery Lambton.
Edible Masterpieces with Carlos Sanchez, will be offered to adults Saturday, December 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Master food designer and Chef Carlos Sanchez will demonstrate and create a beautiful sculpted centerpiece for a special holiday table. He will sculpt and carve from the simplest materials, including melons, squash, apples, carrots and other fruits, to create a beautiful sculpture for the table. You will learn how to create lovely flowers for a small garnish display. This is a free workshop and you must pre-register by telephone, as spaces are limited.
Gingerbread House Workshop with Ciel Clarke will be offered to families on Saturday, December 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Making a Gingerbread House is a tradition that has been around for many years. It was immortalized in the Grimm’s fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. In this workshop learn how to construct a gingerbread house and then have some family fun decorating it. The basic structure will be provided as well as all the materials. Each family will go home with their very own fully decorated Gingerbread House. Children over the age of six are welcome with an adult in attendance and there can be no more than two children per family. The cost is $12.00 plus $10.00 for materials for each family.
Deck the Halls: Fun Decorations with Lori Finlayson, will be offered to children ages 6 to 8 years on Monday, December 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Deck the halls with some fun and funky Christmas decorations that you create yourself. Learn how to marbleize eggs to decorate the Christmas tree, and then make felt gift tags, and more. The cost is $10.
Have fun exploring printmaking, while creating unique Christmas cards in the workshop Christmas Cards: Relief Printmaking, with Lori Finlayson. Students will create a design for a card, and then print multiples of the card, while studying the relief printmaking process. Once the cards are dry, students will continue to personalize their cards with messages. This workshop will be held Monday, December 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is designed for students aged 9 to 13 years. The cost is $10.
Winter Wonderland: Drawing & Painting, with Lori Finlayson will be held Tuesday, December 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and is offered to children aged 6 to 8. Create a winter wonderland and other Christmas themes through various painting/drawing projects. For example, students will layer colours and textures in a drawing project, experiment with wax to repel paint and spritz their way through snow paintings while expressing favourite winter activities. The cost is $10.
Origami Christmas Decorations with Lori Finlayson, is offered to students aged 9 to 13, and will be held on Tuesday, December 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Origami is the classic art of folding paper. In this workshop students will receive step-by-step modeling and instructions to help master the designs. Students will create several origami pieces which will make unique Christmas decorations. The cost is $10.
In Christmas Mobile & Pop-up Cards with Susan Perry, students will construct a Christmas mobile. They can make it fun and festive with Christmas ornaments, found objects and cut-out shapes. Students will create a design of the structure of the mobile by drawing it, and then they will construct a mobile with a Christmas theme. Students will have time to experiment with 3D paper designs and will make pop-up Christmas cards using coloured paper. The class will be held Wednesday, December 22, and Session #1 is designed for children ages 6 to 8, and they will meet from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Session #2, for students aged 9 to 13 will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.
Children will create a beautiful stained glass piece using paper, in the workshop Stained Glass Design, with Susan Perry. The class will begin with a discussion on stained glass. The use of light and transparency of glass (and tissue paper) will be emphasized. The students will create a pattern by drawing a design on black construction paper. Tissue paper will be used to produce a colourful project. The workshops will be offered on Thursday, December 23. Session #1 is for children ages 6 to 8 and will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Session #2 is for ages 9 to 13 and will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.
Students will have fun learning and using all of the elements of design in the workshop Winter Fire with Dave Moore. Students will create images reflecting warm and cool colours using oil pastels and paper. This workshop will be offered Tuesday, December 28. Session # 1 is for children ages 6 to 8 and will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Session #2 is for students ages 9 to 13 and will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.
Shadow & Light, a drawing class with Dave Moore, is designed to teach students how to use shadow and light. Students will work with charcoal and chalk to create tonal changes (value) in a pattern of their own making. The classes will be held Wednesday, December 29. Session #1, for ages 6 to 8, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Session #2, for ages 9 to 13 will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.
In Wildline, with Dave Moore, students will have fun learning how to draw using line as the main element. Students will create a graphic image of a wild animal using brush and ink. The classes will be held Thursday, December 30. Session #1, for ages 6 to 8, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Session #2, for ages 9 to 13, will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.
