Petrolia, ON – Lambton Meadowview Villa is one step closer to achieving its goal of raising $50,000 for its Therapeutic Garden Project, thanks to CIBC and its recent $500 donation.
“We are very grateful for this donation from the CIBC,” said Warden Pat Davidson. “The support we have received from the community has been truly overwhelming.”
“CIBC is fully committed to building vibrant, sustainable communities. In 2004 alone, CIBC contributed over $28 million in Canada to national, regional and local organizations in communities across the country” said Dave Koning, Manager Commercial Banking. “Helping Lambton Meadowview Villa meet its goals through this donation gives us great pleasure.”
For the past two years, staff, residents and volunteers have been building a 13, 000 square foot garden at Lambton Meadowview Villa. This project was made possible through a generous offer from the Shaw Foundation, a group that directs giving toward seniors. The Foundation has committed to matching any dollars raised by the Home, to a maximum of $50,000 and to date LMV has raised $40,000. Staff have until June of 2005 to raise the remaining $10,000.
Therapeutic gardens offer residents in long-term care homes opportunities for recreational activities and exposure to natural light. “We encourage the residents to participate in outdoor activities like gardening and walking,” said Ken Herrington, Manager, Senior Services. “There is no substitute for fresh air and sunshine.”
Currently the garden boasts a paved walkway with handrails, a pond, raised herb beds, and plenty of shaded tables and chairs. Those interested in making a monetary or other form of contribution are encouraged to contact Ken Herrington at (519) 882-3797 ext. 248.
